Principal’s of night of a 1000 Drawings
Over the last five years a number of principals and ancillary aims that we have been striving for while conceptualising and implementing the fund raiser and which we would like to have come through in all night of a 1000 Drawings that will be implemented. These are:
- To expose and provide a level playing field for up-and-coming artists, established artists, amateurs, old and young. Thus: all drawings to be sold at the same price, all drawings need to be displayed randomly at the event, no classifications of any sort.
- Raise awareness and funding for the charity in question, an organisation that does not have a regular sponsor to finance its projects. This means that the charity should get prevalence in exposure of any communication that goes out. Even though dependent on sponsors that need to get something out for contributing one is not able to sell the soul. Thus a “Microsoft presents night of a 1000Drawings”, “the mac donalds night of a 1000 Drawings” or any other direct association between event and sponsoring party will not be allowed.
- Promoting the inner city and encouraging the general public to embrace the inner city more (don’t know how relevant this is in your city)
- Involvement of the community. This is NOT a big corporate event, and thus suppliers of volunteers from all over should be involved.
- Motivating the general public to use their creative juices and get involved in a good cause. We want to break the whole syndrome of “I cannot draw”, “I as an individual cannot do anything to change things, that’s the role of governments and big corporates”.
- Make the event attractive for a broad population base, i.e. jump over barriers of social class, race, age, religious affiliation.
It is important that all night of a 1000Drawings events and communication are consistent with the other events. 1000 Drawings needs to uphold its name and there is no point of having events that are completely different from each other. However, this is not a franchise and the burger at the 1000 drawings does not need to taste like the burger in Cape Town. I.e. there should be in an individuality and creative freedom for each organiser.
